Alright, I believe the majority of us know what the benefits of having our own business are in terms of additional tax breaks, creating our own work schedule etc…
Plus I’m going to presume that you already know that Network Marketing is an extremely lucrative industry to be in. The barrier to enter a given marketplace is quite often financially low and the financial rewards can be quite high.
Starting and owning your own business is highly recommended by the majority of all the success gurus out there (Trump, Kyiosaki, Allen.)
Given all these wonderful benefits of owning your own business and participating in network marketing the following question needs to be asked?
Why do 97% of all network marketers (and internet marketers for that fact) continue to make what I believe is the #1 mistake in the industry?
Owning your own business and becoming an independent agent / distributor for a network marketing business is supposed to lead you the land of the free and wealthy, correct?
Being your own boss or entrepreneur is where all the benefits are, right?
Robert Kyiosaki explains it best in his book the Cash Flow Quadrant, that being an entrepreneur and leveraging others efforts will have dramatic results to your bottom line profits.
J Paul Getty, (at one time the richest man in the world) is quoted:
“I would rather have 1% of 1000 mens efforts then 100% of my own”
That being said, the question must be asked again: Why is the failure rate in network marketing such a dismal 97%.
Well I believe to answer this question you must first ask yourself the following question:
Can anyone make money in network marketing?
Contrary to popular belief, hyped up presentations of comp plans about getting three people who get three will make you a millionaire by next week…the answer is NO.
The reality is not everyone is ready and cut out for the network marketing industry or for that fact owning their own business.
The word to focus on here is business and what happens to a majority of businesses in the off line world?
They do not succeed.
Please understand that I’m not being negative or looking at the glass as being half empty, I’m just shedding a little light on what I believe are some obvious facts.
The majority of people who come into the network marketing industry are known as Opportunity Seekers. They’re looking for something to earn some extra cash, almost like a part time job they could do from home.
The lure for them is they become blinded by making, what in their mind is, extreme financial wealth. They view it as earning mass riches with very little effort.
When it doesn’t occur in their perceived time frame they abandon the industry or go from one opportunity to the other.
They look at the 3% of the top earners and wonder how can I get there and fast. They look at the top 3% and see the nice cars, the fancy suits and the exotic vacations and yet fail to realize what it took those 3%’ers to achieve such rewards.
The top earners will tell you it takes one major characteristic that is lacking in the 97% of network marketing wanna be’s:
MINDSET
The majority of people who enter the network marketing industry, it’s their first attempt at starting a business. To that end they must be congratulated for stepping up and wanting to do something to change their circumstance.
However starting something and seeing it through to completion are two different things. The majority of these new sponsors are not prepared mentally to develop and learn new skills to grow their business.
Skills such as:
- greeting new people
- qualifying them
- inviting them to view a package or presentation
- the call to action and follow up process
What if you’re doing Internet Network Marketing, do you know how to
- how to set up a squeeze page
- use an autoresponder
- create a blog
- traffic generation strategies
- do online presentations
- follow up phone calls
A Network Marketing Opportunity Is A Business
Remember the part of the presentation where it talks about “owning your own business” - it tells you right there what you’re entering into.
Any business you enter into, you must develop a new set of skills to prepare you for that business. This is where mindset comes into playing such an important part.
Learning and perfecting new skills takes time, with unexpected obstacles popping up that can frustrate the crap out of you.
A golfer who wants to break a hundred will invest in books, videos, coaching lessons to get to their goal. They’re discovering new skills, willing to practice them at the range and then take their game to the course to see the results.
Why should developing new skills in your business be any different?
Once you establish the correct mindset and know that you have to invest in yourself, your skills, your development you’re on your way.
You invest in yourself, you practice, implement, falter, practice, implement, invest, practice, implement and eventually little successes begin to occur.
These little successes begin creating bigger successes until the momentum you have created becomes almost unstoppable.
Sure you’ll make mistakes along the way, sometimes your resolve will be questioned…and you just keep moving forward.
What Separates The 3% From The 97%
Please understand this one important aspect between the 3% and the 97%…they’re no smarter then you or me, they don’t have super human intelligence or strength.
Where they differ is they’re willing to
- work a little harder,
- develop themselves a little more,
- take action on what they learn
- move forward regardless of the obstacles
They get up earlier and stay up later honing their skills to become better at building and succeeding in their business. They take the actions necessary to put themselves out there…they have the correct mindset.
And when they fail, (because they do) what do they do?
They don’t view failure in the traditional sense, like it’s something to be avoided and not talked about.
They view it as feedback, of something that didn’t work. They scratch it off their list and move onto the next thing they believe will move them forward towards their goal.
Perhaps you’ve heard the story of Thomas Edison who attempted more than a thousand times to create the lightbulb before achieving success.
A thousand times!
How many people quit after one or two failures, throwing their hands up in disgust and claiming “this stuff is a scam or this doesn’t work”
Okay, I’ve ranted on enough about this and I just wanted you to really think about what you really need to begin moving yourself into the ranks of the top earners. Over the next several days, I’m going to post some additional content on what failure is and how to view it, embrace it and learn from it.

Now if you’re facing this kind or rejection and feeling de-motivated, how can you expect a person you do sponsor to follow suit? They won’t and they’ll quit leading you to wonder why you’re putting yourself through this torture.

Really the old adage of “if it was this easy wouldn’t everyone be doing it” holds true here. There is no such thing as set it and forget it…you as a business owner must have your hands involved in your business if you are to reap the rewards.

Once and for all the secret is revealed and most network marketers and top MLM earners will be angry at me for doing this. The secret is: It doesn’t exist. Don’t believe me…ask all the top earners out there if it does exist. Mike Dillard, Daegan Smith, Jonathan Budd, Tim Sales, Todd Falcone and countless others…they will tell you the same thing…it doesn’t exist. The true secret to achieving success is it takes work and effort. It takes what I call the 4 D’s. You need to have Dreams and these dreams need to be big. I’ll give you an example of this…Daegan Smith when he first started out on line would get up at 5am in the morning and do what ever he needed to do. Whether it was post to his site, submit articles, prepare an ad. Then he would get ready and go to his job. That is an example of desire, drive and determination. How many of you are willing to do something different to achieve your goals? Ask yourself this question: ” What is your answer? Anything other then nothing should not and must not be acceptable to you. Remember this, if you’re looking for the shortcut to success…you’ll be searching long and hard, because it does not exist. Get rich quick As long as there have been people who want to get rich, there have been get rich quick schemes. The guys who sell mailing lists have a name for people who buy these schemes: “opportunity seekers.” Raising ostriches, or timing the market or investing in tulips–there’s a long history here. The schemes tend to have a few things in common. They tend to have the same tone of voice (part breathless, part bad design, part ‘we’re just like you’) and most of all, they are too good to be true. Being too good to be true is the key part, because if it’s too good to be true, maybe, just maybe, it is true. Maybe all those stuck in the mud types aren’t doing it because they’re skeptics, maybe I get a chance to invest in this video program/perpetual motion machine/envelope stuffing scheme precisely because it has scared away the conservative folks who never get anywhere. Someone who will sell them an exclusive $1249 course, or ongoing advice and consulting or some other insight that has escaped the market leaders. The more skeptics they generate, the better they do, because the skepticism itself is part of the story that needs to be told. What’s being sold here? It’s not riches, because if the riches were automatic, the seller would just hire people, right? Why make 1,000 people into millionaires if you can just hire 1,000 people and be a billionaire? No, it’s the belief in riches, the thrill of finding just the right deal, the challenge of getting a relative to loan you money one more time. It’s the frisson of excitement from sending in the money, the rush of impatience that follows as you wait for the package, and then the scary moment when you open the package and come face to face with your dreams. Of course, your dreams are rarely what you hoped (how could they be?) but soon, you’ll be back for more. It seems that being an opportunity seeker is about seeking, not finding. They come into the industry with all the hopes, dreams and enthusiasm to finally be free of the ball and chain known as a JOB. Then for whatever reason they feel dejected, scammed, lied to or just plain frustrated and quit the network marketing industry. A majority of them feel like they are getting steamrolled by there business. Why do I say this? Well how else do you interpret an industry where the attrition, drop out rate is 95%. First off why did you and all the people in mlm get involved. You may say it was for the money, but I am going Why did you feel this way? A variety of reasons I presume such as: I could go on but what’s the point you already know what I’m talking about. Yet there is a solution to this problem and you can have the solution and get what you want out of life only if you choose to do so. Network marketing and direct sales is absolutely fantastic industry to be a part of. A person can enter into the network marketing industry, starting their own business quite inexpensively, and potentially earn more then the person who sponsored them. Can that happen in the corporate world? Okay so its so great why the high attrition rate? Lets look at one reason here today, the training. The training taught does not work for the majority of people. Speak to your friends and family. Post signs, Question: How do you feel when you go to buy furniture from a furniture store and your descended upon by three salesmen all wanting your business because they can make their commission? Hassled? Bugged? Well how do you think your friends and family feel about you hounding them to get into a business where they can make millions? I’ll let you answer that because you probably already know how it feels. What about some of the advertising methods they depict as being useful. Remember every piece of paper, every business card, every button you purchase is costing you money. These things are all business related material that are an investment to your business. The reality is that there is very little or no return on that investment which therefore makes it more of a wasteful expense. What about the biggest wasteful expense? Buying generic biz opp leads. Leads that have been sold numerous times over. Then cold calling those people, having them throw up The approach being taught is “its in the numbers”. Speak to as many people as you can, sooner or later someone will What a waste of time, effort and money. (Lets not forget the rejection in all of this) Who wants to duplicate this method??? Its a shotgun approach when what you really need is a sniper rifle to target people who want to be involved in your business. Meaning you can look at the overall population and find within that a group people who are willing to speak and hear Position yourself in front of these people, with a message of helping them achieve what they want and you will have them coming to you. Willing, ready and able to work with you. How do you do this you ask? By giving these people what they want. Information, training and support to help them reach their goals. Giving them full value so they look at you and say “Yeah, I want to align myself with him or her”. Do this and you are magnetic, attracting like minded people all moving towards a collective goal. Help others achieve what they want and you will achieve everything you want. This my friend is attraction marketing at its finest. This is how you do not get crushed by your network marketing business.
